Due to work being done on the electrical installation of the Meeting Room and school, Sunday Meeting for Worship will be held at the Monteverde Institute (downstairs classroom) until further notice. Mid-week Meeting for Worship (9:00 on Wednesdays) will be held in the kindergarten classroom.

Please join us for a Meeting for Worship

Visitors are always welcome!

A Friends Meeting begins in silence. The Divine Spirit is near to us always, but sometimes it is a help just to be still and in quietness try to feel this Presence. We therefore settle down into silent worship and strive to have an actual feeling or knowledge of the presence of God.

It is our desire that our meetings be under the guidance of the Spirit. There is no designated minister to speak or pray at any appointed time, for any are free to speak when moved by the spirit of God. No one will start the meeting or conduct it. Each one present shares the responsibility for worship and can share in its blessing.

Often our experience has been that in this silent worship we do actually feel that we are with God. Sometimes it is a feeling of peace and encouragement that we can hardly describe. Or it may be a search to be the best we can and a “hunger and thirst after righteousness”.

Receive each message in a loving spirit, for each one rightly given will help someone, but our needs are different and can be met only in differing ways. If the message does not speak to your condition, try nevertheless to reach the spirit behind the words.

This simple form of worship, meeting with God in the quiet and depending upon the Spirit for messages to our souls, has often brought us rich blessings. These things we wish to share, and you are most cordially welcome.

Our Discipline

The Discipline is a statement of our principles and beliefs. We humbly acknowledge how far our actions fall short of these ideals and aspirations, but hoping that they many serve as a measure, a guide and an inspiration to use the light which we have, thereby making ourselves worthy of receiving more. The spiritual values in the Discipline are presented as suggestions rather than commands. It questions or queries rather than giving specific answers. It places upon the individual conscience, rather than upon external authority, the responsibility for the discipline of the Spirit.

We believe that we have to start where we are and that our religious lives will grow and mature as we are faithful to the guidance we have received. The Discipline seeks to challenge and encourage the individual and the group to seek and find the guidance of God in all aspects of our lives. “By their fruits ye shall know them.” With this insight our Meetings for Business as well as our Meetings for Worship can become a living, religious experience.

“Dearly beloved Friends,
These things we do not lay upon you as a rule or form to walk by, but that all, with the measure of light which is pure and holy, may be guided and so in the light walking and abiding, these may be fulfilled in the spirit not in the letter, for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”
–Letters of Early Friends

More information about VISITING Monteverde

We are enriched by the visitors that share Meeting with us each year.   We sometimes feel overwhelmed by the many inquiries we receive from people as they plan their trip to Monteverde. Rather than consulting us, we would be grateful if you consulted a guidebook, such as the Lonely Planet Guide to Costa Rica or a website such as MonteverdeInfo.com.
